Trip Objective

To drive my 2019 Tesla Model 3 Performance clockwise around Australia. The journey will start from home in Myrtleford, NE Victoria, and visit Capital cities not reached on previous trips, namely Perth, Darwin, Brisbane and Canberra plus two 'aspirational destinations' of Broome and Cairns.

We have already driven to Melbourne, Hobart, Sydney and Adelaide, plus Coober Pedy in Central Australia.

I've seen comments that only 17 EVs have been driven around Australia before this. I don't know if this is correct but I am claiming that we will be one of the first to have reached all 8 state and territory capitals plus Broome and Perth. It's academic though because there are no prizes!

This blog is primarily for our personal purposes. It may also be of interest to our family and friends, other EV drivers and  anyone considering an EV in the near future. It is not suitable for people who are only interested in vehicles that can tow their 40-foot caravan up the steep side of Mt Everest in a blizzard.

Thanks to organisations like TOCA and AEVA that have encouraged remote locations to offer charging facilites. The trip in 2021 may not be as much of a challenge as it was for the first EV but it still requires some planning today. I hope it wil be easier in the near future and prompt more EV owners to explore the country.
